You were all guessing along the right lines, believe it or not! The mystery object was given to me - sold to me actually - when I took up the offer to have Benjy weighed at the same time as his measles jab. You take his clothes off, sit him in this, lift him up and hang him on the hook ... and in this undignified position he is weighed! He wasn't happy about it, but I was, as he hadn't been weighed since he was 4 months old (and he's now 10, nearly 11). 10kg, in case anyone's interested!
